Why teams move from OpenProject

The problems we hear most often, and how GoProject addresses them.

  • “The team needs a faster and more comfortable place for everyday work.”

GoProject offers editing right in the list, quick create from the keyboard, a command palette and boards that update in real time for every user.

  • “Standard filters are not enough for the harder questions.”

The GoProject search builder supports AND, OR, brackets and the history of changes. Saved filters can be shared with the team and used on dashboards.

  • “Test cases and test runs are kept outside the project tool.”

Test management is built in: test cases with steps and expected results, test plans, and cycles for regression, smoke and acceptance tests, run step by step. A failed test becomes a bug on the spot, and every cycle is tied to its release.

  • “IT tickets need yet another tool.”

The GoProject Help Desk includes queues, SLA deadlines by working calendar, a customer portal with organisations and a mailbox of its own for each Help Desk.

  • “It is hard to tell why a given user can see sensitive information.”

GoProject security levels limit access to specific work items, and the permission check shows the rule that allows or denies an action for a given user.

Where OpenProject is ahead today

We say this openly too. In these areas OpenProject offers more today, and GoProject still has work to do.

  • A free Community edition and open source with a publicly available repository.
  • A long history of product development and a large user community.
  • Meeting management with agendas and minutes, and cost and budget management.
  • A wider range of interface languages, and integrations with document storage such as Nextcloud, SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • A mobile app; GoProject has no mobile app at present.
  • SAML support in the paid editions; GoProject does not support SAML at present.

Moving from OpenProject

Import the data straight from OpenProject. Connect OpenProject with a user API key, from your own installation or from the OpenProject cloud. Work packages are moved together with their types, statuses, custom fields, comments, files, work logs and links. Versions become releases and categories become components. Statuses are moved with their transitions open, so configure the transitions you need once after the import, in the GoProject visual workflow editor.
