GoProject vs Redmine

Redmine is an open-source system for managing projects and issues that can run in your own infrastructure and be extended with plugins. GoProject keeps the on-premises approach and adaptable workflows, while a Help Desk with SLA, automation, documents with approval and other work management capabilities are part of the product itself.

Why teams move from Redmine

The problems we hear most often, and how GoProject addresses them.

  • “Everyday work needs a more modern and faster interface.”

GoProject offers editing right in the list, quick create from the keyboard, a command palette and boards that update in real time for every user.

  • “Test management comes only through plugins that need upkeep of their own.”

Test management is built in: test cases with steps and expected results, test plans, and cycles for regression, smoke and acceptance tests, run step by step. A failed test becomes a bug on the spot, and every cycle is tied to its release.

  • “IT tickets need a third-party plugin.”

The GoProject Help Desk is part of the product, with SLA deadlines by working calendar, request forms, a customer portal and a mailbox of its own for each Help Desk.

  • “People have to do repetitive actions by hand.”

GoProject automation can be started by events, a schedule, SLA thresholds, Git events and incoming webhooks. It can change work items, log time, send an e-mail or a message to Slack and Teams, and call an external URL.

  • “The Gantt view is not enough for detailed planning.”

GoProject Gantt lets you plan work with deadlines, dependencies and working days. Scrum and Kanban boards run the everyday work and update in real time.

Where Redmine is ahead today

We say this openly too. In these areas Redmine offers more today, and GoProject still has work to do.

  • Open source with a long history of product development and use.
  • A wide range of third-party plugins for many needs.
  • The interface is available in considerably more languages; GoProject offers English, Latvian and German at present.
  • Built-in repository browsing for several version control systems, and project forums.
  • Wide deployment options in environments where the organisation already maintains the technology stack Redmine needs.

Moving from Redmine

Import the data straight from Redmine. Connect Redmine with a user API key. Trackers are moved as work item types, statuses keep their meaning of done, versions become releases and categories become components. Issues are moved together with their journal entries, watchers, files, links, custom fields, and estimated and logged time. The Redmine REST API does not describe workflow transitions, so statuses are moved with their transitions open; configure the transitions you need once after the import, in the GoProject visual workflow editor.
